Ceola M. Robbins, Martin's Mother Passes Away

Ceola M. Robbins, 92, Warrensburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at Country Club Care Center.  She was born in Pittsville on Jan. 18, 1917, daughter of Jake and Etta Leakey Garnett. She was married Dec. 29, 1945 to Floyd B. Robbins in Kansas City. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1989.  Ceola was a graduate of Odessa High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. She started her teaching career in the rural schools of Lafayette County. Ceola and her husband moved to Colorado where she taught at Calhan, Colo. They later moved to Idaho where she taught at Mountain Home, Idaho. They returned to Missouri and taught at Valley View School and Farmers Elementary. In 1977, she retired after teaching 38 years. She spent the last 20 years at South East School in Warrensburg.  Ceola was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville Homemakers Club, and a member of the state and local Retired Teachers Association.  She is survived by a son, Martin Robbins and wife, Conny, two grandchildren, Kevin and Sarina, of Warrensburg and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Jay and John Garnett, preceded her in death.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Crawshaw officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Jerry Stockton, Rick Reith, Steve Case, Jay McMullin, Dan Weigand and Larry McMullin. Honorary pallbearers will be Mel Sims, Don Parsons, James Garnett, Osborne McMillan, and Bob Morehead.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Cumberland Presbyterian Church and may be left at the funeral home.  Our sympathies and prayers go out to the family, Mrs. Robbins was everyone's favorite 4th grade teacher!  Class of 1973.
