Dr. Robert Ulrich, father to Barb and Janet passes away

Robert Albert Ulrich, 83, passed peacefully with family present, Aug. 18, 2012.
He was born March 21, 1929, in Hamburg, N.Y., to Albert M. Ulrich and Ruth G. Fagnon Ulrich. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Hamburg High School, received his BS and MS from Buffalo State College in the early 1950s, and his PhD from Michigan State University in 1970. He served in the Air National Guard after attending OCS at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
He married Marion J. Owen of Kenmore, N.Y., on July 8, 1953. They had two daughters, Barbara Sue and Janet Lyn, and the family moved to Warrensburg in 1968 where Bob taught in the Safety Department at Central Missouri State College (currently UCM). He became a full professor in Safety, Science and Technology and continued at the university until his 1991 retirement.
With a great zest for life and community, Bob Ulrich was involved in numerous organizations including Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Rotary (serving one year as president), Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce (serving on the board and was an Ambassador), Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council (active in Military Affairs), Warrensburg City Council (serving two years as mayor), 21 years as chairman of the Traffic Commission, American Driver Traffic Safety Education Association (serving a year as president).
Amidst all this, it must be said that his passion was music. From directing intercollegiate sings at Buffalo State, singing in the choir, directing musicals with the Hamburg Little Theatre, directing the church choir in East Aurora, N.Y., and teaching piano lessons, Bob was always involved with creating beautiful music. He brought his passion for music to Missouri, where he served as choir director at Knob Noster UMC for 21 years. As an organist, he played for Knob Noster UMC and Warrensburg UMC as needed.
Also a talented craftsman, Bob Ulrich's carpentry skills survive at Knob Noster UMC, where he built the cross which hangs above the altar in the sanctuary, as well as constructing other items used in the church building.
Robert A. Ulrich is survived by wife, Marion J. Ulrich; daughters Barbara Sue Ulrich and Janet Lyn Ulrich Brooks; and granddaughter Laura E. Meyer Bolsen.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois J. Hoppe of Hamburg, N.Y., and parents.
Family members were singing along to favorite old hymns, as Dad, Husband, Bob, Dr. Ulrich, took his last breath on earth. His enormous energy has been released into the heavens.
Memorial contributions may be given in his name to First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, United Methodist Church of Knob Noster, or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held in September (date to be determined), at Euclid Ave. Methodist Church in Oak Park, lll., where Bob and Marion moved in January 2012 to be closer to family.  Our condolences and prayers to Barb, Janet, Marion, family and friends from the Class of 73.
