January 7, 1862 Federal Troops Hope to Save Warrensburg from Being Burned

The Union men in Johnson County (Missouri) are so exasperated at the outrages of the rebels that nothing but Federal troops will save Lexington and Warrensburg from being burned. The movements of Col. Jennison are kept secret yet enough is known to warrant the opinion that certain notorious rebels in Johnson County and their dupes will be bagged.
An illustration from Harper's Weekly shows a Confederate attack on General Albert Lee's wagon train at Mansfield
A government train of about 30 wagons and 75 men is reported, to have been captured about 6 miles Northeast of Gerrytown (Jerrytown, Missouri) by a band of rebels. Word was conveyed to Col. Thaper of the 1st Nebraska regiment at Georgetown, who promptly, dispatched a party in pursuit.
