Evrope Kostas - Mother of Dorothy(Dodie) and Leo Kostas, Warrensburg Missouri

Evrope Kostas, 89, formerly of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away on March 8, 2010, in Columbia, Missouri.

She was born July 28, 1920, in Fartha, Greece, (now modern day Turkey) to Aleko and Meli Terzopoulos.

Beloved wife, mother and homemaker, she is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alex Kostas; seven children, Effie Taylor, Meli Alvarado, Athanasia Brenton, Koula Makridis, Stamo Ligonis, Dorothy Dougherty and Leo Kostas; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elias Terzopoulos and Taso Terzopoulos, both of Katarini, Greece; and two sisters, Kasi Aslanidis of Columbia and Bartena Lygurkos of Katarini, Greece. She also has many nieces and nephews from Columbia and Greece that she greatly enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aleko and Meli Terzopoulos, and sister, Maudo, and brother, George.
She emigrated from Katarini, Greece, with her four small daughters to join her husband in Duluth, Minn., in March 1953. The Kostas raised their growing family in Duluth, Menomonie, Wis., and Warrensburg. After a successful career in the restaurant business, the couple retired and has lived in Columbia since 1985.
The family relocated to Warrensburg from Wisconsin in 1968 and owned and operated Alex's Pizza and Steak House at 818 S. Maguire St. Four of the seven Kostas children graduated from Warrensburg High School. Mrs. Kostas loved spending time with her family, crocheting and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was very dedicated to the Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed spending time with her Greek friends.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, on Thursday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at St. Luke the Evangelist Greek Orthodox Church, 1510 Audubon Drive, with interment immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke the Evangelist Greek Orthodox Church.
