Korean War vet Kenneth McCloud, dies at 79
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Kenneth W. McCloud, 79, of Warrensburg, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at his home. He was born on Sept. 8, 1929, in Kingsville, Mo., the son of James B. and Pruda (Giltner) McCloud.On April 28, 1941, he married Velma Jean Smith in Holden, Mo. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2003.Kenneth was a graduate of the Kingsville High School and a veteran on the Korean War, serving from Oct. 11, 1951 to Oct. 20, 1953, in the U.S. Army. He worked as a meter reader for the Missouri Public Service for 36 years, retiring in 1993. He also owned and operated the McCloud Refinishing and Caning business. Kenneth loved gardening and fishing.He was a member of the First Christian Church of Warrensburg and a 50 years member of the IBEW Union.Survivors include a son, K. Dale McCloud and wife, Jan, of Warsaw; two daughters, Dianne Maness of Warrensburg and Susan Smarr and husband, Kenny, of Chilhowee; two brothers, James McCloud of Bartleville, Okla., and Glen McCloud of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Tracy Smarr-Dolezal and husband, Brian, of Shawnee, Kan., Byron Smarr and wife, Nichole, of Warrensburg, Megan Holter and husband, Larry, of Guam, and Wes Maness of Warrensburg; and two great granddaughters, Brooklynn Smarr and Melinda Dolezal.He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at the First Christian Church of Warrensburg, the Rev. Jerry Basye officiating.Burial will be in the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the Matthew-Crawford American Legion Post 131 or the VFW Post 2513 of Warrensburg.
