Edith Lord Hensley, 88, of Warrensburg passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at the Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg. She was born June 19, 1924 in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of John Wesley and Jessie Surber Lord. She was one of seven siblings. On April 7, 1945, she and William J. Hensley, high school sweethearts, were married in Norfolk, Va. After 55 years of marriage he preceded her in death on April 15, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two children, Rebecca Ruth and Tomas Russell on June 15, 1972. Edith was a tax accountant since 1954, working for Anchor Savings and Loan in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Warrensburg and opening a tax preparation business. Edith accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was 7 years old and was baptized in the Chelsea Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Warrensburg since 1952. Bill and Edith worked with young married couples in Sunday school for many years. She was active in many groups and served on many committees in the church. She especially loved the young couples and has remained close with many of them over the years. She is survived by a son, Bill Hensley and wife Julie, of Chanute Kan.; two grandchildren, Tyler Hensley and fianceé Taryne Stanislaus, of Olathe, Kan., and Rebecca Phelan and husband Mark, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Albert Lord and wife Corinne, of Overland Park, Kan., and Sam Lord and wife Dottie of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg with the Rev. Dennis Doyle officiating. Interment will follow at the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg or the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in memory of Becky and Tom Hensley in care of the funeral home. Our condolences and prayers to Bill, Julie, Tyler, Rebecca, extended family and friends on Edith's passing. Warrensburg High School and our neighborhood has never forgotten that tragic day 40 years ago. On that day her children and Bill's older sister and brother, Becky and Tom Hensley, along with Paul McClellan formerly of Warrensburg were killed by a drunk driver in Eastern Tennessee while the families vacationed together. We have never forgotten the family. http://1973whsreunion.blogspot.se/2010/07/becky-and-tommy-hensley-remembered.html |
