Thank you for all the kind words. Dennis loved trapshooting and especially the friendships he had across the country. We miss him dearly. Love, Lynn (his wife), and family.
Dennis Omar Alkire, 61, of Centerview, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on February 4, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Omar B. and Betty Alkire. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from College High School in 1971. He attended Central Missouri State College (UCM) for one year on a football scholarship. On August 20, 1971, he married his childhood sweetheart, Lynn Graves in Warrensburg. She survives of the home. Dennis entered the heavy laborers’ construction industry where he was a foreman and superintendent for J.R. Stewart, Lamb Construction, and Bandiera in the Kansas City area. In 1989, he started his own business, Elite Landscaping, and continued operations until his death. In addition to his business, he was a competitive trap shooter and traveled throughout the US winning events in ATA Handicap, Singles and Doubles. Dennis had a passion for his family, woodworking and creating unique things. In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by two daughters; Kimberly (Ryan) Stull of Lee’s Summit, Kristina (Brett) Carlgren of Overland Park, KS, one son, Deke (Sarah) Alkire of Ardmore, OK. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Tyler and Kyanne Carlgren, Audrey Alkire, and Reed Stull; mother, Betty Alkire; one sister, Connie Unrein; two brothers, Steven Alkire and Ronnie Alkire. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Omar Alkire. Visitation will be Monday evening, March 3rd from 5-8 pm at Sweeney Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, 617 N. Maguire, in Warrensburg. Funeral services will be held on March 4, at 10 am at the First Christian Church, 101 E. Gay St. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Johnson County Fair Association for fairgrounds landscaping.

Dennis Alkire of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away yesterday afternoon of a massive heart attack. Dennis had just landed in Tucson, Az to compete at the Spring Grand American. Dennis was 60 years old.

I shot with Dennis many times and was on the squad when he broke his 1st 200. Dennis was a "family man" and all-around "good guy".

Everyone here in Tucson was SHOCKED by this news. My heartfelt sympathy to all of his family and friends. I know only too well how difficult it is to experience a sudden loss, I hope his family will feel and embrace the love and support of his shooting friends.
