1871 August 16 Laying of Cornerstone at State Normal University Warrensburg UCM

Corner Stone Celebration 
STATE NORMAL UNIVERSITY. 
Warrensburg, August 16, 1871. 
PROGRAMME
At 3:30 a. m. Citizens' reception of guests from the East, at the depot. 
At 9 a. m. The Masonic, Odd Fellows, and other organizations, will meet at the headquarters of their respective orders. 
At 9:45 a. m. Citizens reception of guests from the West, at depot. 
At 9:45 a. m. Procession will form on Holden street, with right resting on Gay, in following order: 

1. Harrisonville Band. 
2. Knights Templar. 
3. Citizens on foot. 
4. Students and Faculty cf Normal School. 
5. Turners Society. 
6. Odd Fellows. 
7. Bochin's Band, (St. Louis.) 
8. Masonic Fraternity. 
9. Grand Master and Suite, with escort of Knights Templar. 
10. Board of Regents. 
11. Speakers and invited guests in carriages. 
12. Warrensburg Band. 
13. Citizens mounted and in carriages. 
14. Plesant Hill Band. 
At 10 a. m. The procession will move north on Holden street to Gay; east to Miller; south to Market; cast to Maguire; south to Grover; west to Miller (college today); south to Normal Grounds. 
At 11 a. m.. Laying of the corner stone. Ceremonies conducted by M. W., Thomas E. Garrett, Grand Muster of the Slate of Missouri, assisted by the officers of the Grand Lodge A. F. and A. M. of the State. 
At 12 a. m. Procession will reform and move to the Grounds. 
At 1 p. m. Basket Picnic Dinner. The citizens of Johnson County invite everybody to a free basket pic-nic dinner.  
At 2 p. m. Speaking from the stand in the amphitheater, in the Fair Grounds, by Hon. James S. Rollins, of Columbia; P. McViear, L. L. D., Topeka, Kansas; Hon. J. Montieth, Jefferson City: Hon. Waldo P. Johnson, Osceola: Hon. Thomas C. Fletcher, and Hon. Norman J. Colman, of St. Louis: Hon. John S. Carlisle, of Virginia: Prof. D. H. Cruttenden, State Normal School, New York: Hon. S. S. Burdett, and others.
At 5 p. m. The procession will re-form and march to town.

Other articles wrote that over 10,000 people attended the laying of the cornerstone and the Main Building was the second-largest Normal building in the United States when it opened.
