Mary Burt Yost Dee - Sally's Mother

Mary Burt YostDee was born in St. Louis, on Nov. 6, 1918 and died on March 4, 2010 in Warrensburg.

She was preceded in death by her husbandof more than 65 years, William L. J. Dee and her sister Virginia Yost Passmore. Her parents were Dr. Walter Burt Yost and Grace Hochmuth Yost. Her father was a family physician for 62 years in St. Louis.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, 617 N. Maguire St., Warrensburg.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., with the service following at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Dee graduated from University City High School in June 1936. She organized the class reunions every 5 years from the 40th to the 65th reunion and loved doing that.During high school she was a member of the Delta Gamma Delta Sorority.
While living in Cedar Falls, Iowa, during the time her husband taught sociology at the University of Northern Iowa, she sponsored TauSigma Delta sorority for 16 years. Later this sorority became the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

Mrs. Dee loved her kitty cats, bridge games, traveling, knitting and speed. She was a State Fair blue ribbon winner in candy and cakes. Mrs. Dee drove a NASCAR race car at the Kansas Speedway at age 83 with a top speed at 115 mph. This was a once in a lifetime experience for her. She also volunteered for 25 years in the gift shop at Western Missouri Medical Center and belonged to several local clubs. She was a member of United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children: D. James Dee of New York, N.Y.; Sue Dee of Williamsburg, Ky.; and SallyMcDaniel of Kansas City, Mo. and their spouses; granddaughter Jessica Ann Dee; grandsons Dan and Don Bushey; and great-grandsons Tate and Spencer Bushey.
