Twelve Soldiers Slaughtered.
On Sunday last, seventy bushwhackers, dressed in Union clothes, rode up to a squad of fourteen Federal soldiers, on Big Creek, on the road from Pleasant Hill to Warrensburg, and addressing them in a friendly manner, took them completely by surprise, pretending to be Federal soldiers until the poor fellows were completely in their power, when they brutally shot them down without mercy. Just before this murder, the stage had been robbed on the road mentioned, by the same gang, doubtless. Twelve of the fourteen were killed. One escaped and arrived at Warrensburg. A force was sent out after them from that place. There is reliable information that the bushwhackers are recruiting their forces in Cass and Johnson counties, Mo.
Our first reports were that they were at, or near, Warrensburg, in Johnson County, " Mo., which; "place is some 48 miles east of the line. Pleasant Hill is in Cass County, about thirty miles west of Harrisonville, and twenty-five miles southeast of Kansas City. Last Monday, it was" discovered that the guerrillas were gathering on Big creek, a little south of Pleasant Hill. The report, by the time it reached here; was that a camp of guerrillas had just been discovered on Bull creek, south of Spring hill, Johnson County in this State, Spring Hill is some twelve miles from Olathe. This confounding of names caused the flying rumors of Tuesday.
