The painting, seen full size in this image, was donated to the McClure in 1974 by Catherine Haymaker, an expert in Spain and a frequent traveler to Spain in the 1920s and 1930s. The reign of Alfonso XIII is the period in the history of Spain in which reigned Alfonso XIII de Borbón , who from the moment of his birth in May 1886 and was king, since his father Alfonso XII had died five months earlier. The regency of Maria Cristina de Habsburgo (1885-1902) was "a particularly significant period in the history of Spain , since in those years of the end of the century the system knew its stabilization, the development of liberal policies, but also the appearance of great fissures that in the international terrain were shaped by the colonial war , first, and with the USA, later, provoking the military and diplomatic defeat that led to the loss of the colonies after the Treaty of Paris of 1898 . On the inside, Spanish society experienced a considerable mutation, with the emergence of political realities as significant as the emergence of regionalisms and peripheral nationalisms , the strengthening of a worker movement of double affiliation, socialist and anarchist , and the persistent persistence, although decreasing, of the republican and Carlist opposition ». 1

The constitutional period (1902-1923) is the period of his personal reign in which King Alfonso XIII accepted the role conferred by the 1876 ​​Constitution that governed during the Bourbon Restoration in Spain , although he did not limit himself to exercising a role symbolic but actively intervened in political life, especially in military matters, thanks to the relatively broad powers enjoyed by the Crown. The political king , the politician on the throne , was thus an obstacle to the transformation of the political regime of the Restoration into a parliamentary monarchy , and his intervention "became more pronounced in the moments in which the parties (of the turn) showed little internal cohesion and the opinion did not opt ​​for a leader in a clear way. In these circumstances, the decision of the monarch to hand over power to one or another political leader constituted a decisive participation in the internal politics of the parties. " 2

The dictatorship of Primo de Rivera (1923-1930) was the second period of the personal reign of Alfonso XIII in which the king did not oppose the coup d'état of Primo de Rivera that ended the liberal regime. In this way Alfonso XIII united his destiny to that of the Dictatorship, so when Primo de Rivera failed in his attempt to establish an authoritarian regime and submitted his resignation in January 1930, the monarchy itself was questioned.

The dictablanda of General Berenguer (1930-1931) could not prevent the growth of the republican option that led to the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic on April 14, 1931 and Alfonso XIII was forced to go into exile.

Ernest "Owen" Wyatt, Warrensburg, MO July 1 1916- Feb. 3, 2014

Ernest "Owen" Wyatt, age 97, of Warrensburg, MO, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014, at Western Missouri Medical Center. He was born July 1, 1916, in Leeton, MO, the son of Lester W. and Mary Ann (Reynolds) Wyatt. On Nov. 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Guynn in Clinton, MO. She preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2005. Owen was a graduate of Leeton High School class of 1932. In 1942, he was inducted into Company I, 313th Infantry, 79th Division of the U.S. Army and was discharged as Staff Sergeant on October 20, 1942. From 1943 to 1945 he was a district salesman for the Cudahy Meat Packing Company in Durango, CO. In 1945 he became an agent for Mobil Oil Company in Warrensburg, MO. In 1961, he became a distributor 'jobber', known as Wyatt Oil Company, for Skelly Oil, which was a subsequently became Getty and Texaco. Owen retired in 2001. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks Lodge #673 and American Legion Post #131. Owen is survived by three sons, Dr. Michael Lee Wyatt and wife Karen of Santa Monica, CA, Patrick Owen Wyatt and wife Lynda of Blue Springs, MO, and James Jeffery Wyatt and wife Kathy of Warrensburg, MO; eight grandchildren, Tammy Bardwell and husband Steve, Kent Wyatt and wife Pam, Troy Wyatt and wife Jenny, Jeremy Wyatt and wife Neely, Kelli Bickley and husband Chad, Steven Pfost and wife Melissa, Kristi Westhead and husband Steve, and Kimberly Wyatt; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Pastor Jerry Basye officiating. Pallbearers will be Troy Wyatt, Jeremy Wyatt, Steven Pfost, Kent Wyatt, Steve Bardell, Densil Allen, and Gary Baldwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Lynde, Bill Brenner, Dale Slifer, and Tom King. Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Florence Riddle, Garland Riddle Pass Away Warrensburg, Missouri

Florence Riddle, 90 of Warrensburg, Missouri died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Rev. Louie Lowe of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.

Pallbearers will be Chance Riddle, Josh Cavanaugh, Jay Smith, Corey Cavanaugh, Matt Smith, William Parsons, Jett Brandes and J. C. Riddle.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m, Thursday, at the funeral home.

Florence was born April 28, 1927, in Delhi, New York, daughter of Ralph T. and Vida H. Hotchkiss Burk. At the age of twelve, she moved with her family to Calhoun. She graduated from College High School in Warrensburg. Florence was united in marriage to Garland W. Riddle on April 20, 1947, in Warrensburg. She worked on the farm all of her adult life. Her interests included most anything involving the outdoors. Florence was a member of Houts Chapel Methodist Church and later, First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four children: Ron and Debbie Riddle of Warrensburg; Jan and Dan Smith of Milton, FL; Beth and Kevin Cavanaugh of Littleton, CO; and Lance Riddle and Renee Brandes of Warrensburg; sister: Pearl Warnken of Warrensburg; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland in 2010 and her brother, Everett Burk.

Garland W. Riddle, 88, of  Warrensburg, died

Sunday March 14, 2010 at the Warrensburg Veterans Home surrounded by his family.Garland William Riddles was born July 7, 1921, in Chilhowee, Mo., to Myron W. and Violet V. (Kline) Riddle. He grew up on the family farm south of Warrensburg and graduated from College High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy August 25, 1942. He was trained as a machinist mate and worked on aircraft. Garland was honorably discharged Feb. 6, 1946. He returned to Warrensburg and married Florence Burk April 20, 1947. He farmed fulltime, raising cattle and crops. He also worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant, as a carpenter, and at the Physical Plant at CMSU until he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of the home; four children: Ron Riddle and Jan Smith, both of Warrensburg; Beth Cavanaugh of Littleton, Colo., and Lance Riddle, also of Warrensburg; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle.

His funeral was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg. 

Interment followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2513 and American Legion, Post #131. Pallbearers were Matt Smith, Jason Smith, Josh Cavanaugh, Corey Cavanaugh, William Parsons and J. C. Riddle.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Warrensburg Veterans Home in care of the funeral home.
